Rs 250 Crore - Convention Centre to come up near Bangalore Airport

Keeping pace with other State capitals, Karnataka too will set up a mega convention centre near Devanahalli airport at a cost of Rs 250 crore. This decision was taken at the State Cabinet meet on Thursday. S. Suresh Kumar, Karnataka Law Minister, in a briefing with reporters said that Bangalore was losing out hosting or attracting huge conferences and exhibitions to other States. The centre will be built on 35 acres and would have a seating capacity of over 5,000 people, 20 small conference halls accommodating between 50 and 200 people and a 20,000 sq. metre exhibition centre. The Cabinet also approved the Bangalore Helix project at Electronic City, where in a biotechnology lab and incubation facilities for biotechnology start-ups would be created at a cost of Rs 16 crore on five acres.
